Wow, those colors.I'm trying to replace books after a fire--this was one of the ones to get. There may be better books on Seminole piecing, but.... I've tried a couple of times, but I can't use colors like that.
Indian Princess wannabeAs a kid Pocohantas was my heroine & I wanted to grow up to be an 'indian princess'. Now there is another reason to want to be one. The book is great, breaks down techniques making the most complex simple and understandable. Incredible things to do with colour.

Seminole Song

Grabs you and won't let go!I was never a reader of historical romances so I don't know what made me pick up this book. Maybe it was because of my own Seminole heritage or maybe it was the novelty of a romance between an Indian man and a woman who wasn't white. Whatever the reason, I'm glad that I took the plunge. This wonderful book was such a treat that I'm now an avid reader of historical romances. Vella Munn's characters in "Seminole Song" are so realistically drawn that I feel I really know them. She keeps the plot credible even down to Calida's inability to fully enjoy physical involvement with the man she loves because she has been repeatedly raped by her master. Seminole culture and history are well integrated into the plot and some very realistic details concerning the life of a slave woman are woven in, too. The author also utilizes the Everglades setting so well that the swamp is almost a character itself. I read this book in one sitting and have gone back to it many times to fondly relive Calida and Panther's story. Despite my now rather large and growing collection of historical romances, I have yet to find a book in the genre that surpasses "Seminole Song." Bravo, Vella, and let's have some more Indian romances with heroines of color.
This book was thrilling from the beginning until the end.I finished this book in about 2 days. It was fantastic. I learned a lot about the history of the Seminole Indians. It was adventurous and it was a great love story also.
GREATI LOVED this book!! It was fabously written and a wonderful novel. This is my favorite book now and I would rate it a 20 or higher if possible. A must read!!

The 2nd best coach in college football(1 BEAR BRYANT)This was a very intrestling book about the 2nd best coach and the incredible story of the 1991 season. This is a must read book for FSU Fans everywhere. I thourghly enjoyed this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves college football.
Excellent, as seen from the inside! As a freshman at Florida State in '91, I worked with the football team as a student athletic trainer. I remember Ben Brown, and how he spent almost every minute with the team, nearly becoming a part of it. Take it from someone who was there: Ben Brown got it right. If you want to know what a season at the top of college football's elite feels like, read this book. Even today, reading passages takes me back to memories I will never forget. I just wish Ben could have been with us in '93, when we won the National Championship, so he could have written a happier ending.
saint bobby and the barbariansI felt this book reached deep down into college football. I was thrilled when names such as Edgar Bennet, Charlie Ward, Amp Lee, and Danny Kanell.
I felt the boos of the opossing fans and felt the cheers of ours. Until I read
this book, I never realized the preparation it takes to coach a college football
team. This was a well planned, well thought, documentation of Florida State
Football.

Clear and complete instruction in a fascinating technique. This book is exquisite! The directions it contains are crystal clear, and the beautiful color graphics give it a lot of esthetic appeal. It is very easy to use and learn from. This book deserves to be thought of as a classic in its field. We should be grateful that we live in a time of computers and books such this one that they make possible.
Excellent for beginners; useful for experienced quiltersThe book is very well organized. One can start a project or task from the book without reading the whole book -- every step is detailed and well illustrated. There are enough examples of useful items to encourage beginners, and to stimulate the more experienced quilter or fabric artist. It is delightful to the senses, and every fabric artist should have it.

The Black Seminoles: History of a Freedom-Seeking People
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Florida (October, 1996)
Average review score:

A Treasure ChestThis is a classic. Every serious historian of African Americans needs to have this book. I am a descendant of these people and much of what is in the book confirmed what I have been told since I was a boy. Thanks to those tireless warriors who coompleted this work for without them, it would have remained hidden away.
This account of a people dedicated to freedom is a must read.
Insider's PerspectiveAs a descendant of Florida's Apalachicola Indians removed to Texas in 1834, I know the Black Seminole as my kin. Porter's narrative parallels our oral tradition and enhances it with photos and maps. Facts presented are well researched and documented with scholarly precision. Historic accuracy is near flawless. Language of the text is readable and the style captivating. No dry history here! Porter brings this forgotten segment of Florida's mixed blood Seminoles to life in seventeen easy chapters. Like a piece of tender, seasoned vinson, it leaves the reader filled but wanting more. No worse injustice could be done to Professor Porter that compare The Black Seminoles to another text. The power of the Porter pen has no peer. Without reservation, Porter's text is a unique gift to all of us. sixwomen@nettally.com

Blood Echoes: The True Story of an Infamous Mass Murder and Its Aftermath
Published in Hardcover by E P Dutton (March, 1992)

One of them was familyI thought the book was a wonderful recount of the happenings. One of the family, Aubrey Alday, was my uncle. He was married to my father's sister. The entire family was very friendly. I visited them several times when I was younger. I would go spend the night with my aunt and uncle sometimes. I just wish the men that killed them would get what is coming to them. They need to pay for what they did. They have no remorse.
Who I am and How I feel about this book.Hello my name is Christina Hope Alday. I am 17 years old and i want to find out some infromation on the killings of these six people. You know like their past History and who they were related to. If anyone can help me please e-mail me at: dopey_31728@yahoo.com. I would really like to fing out this info.

The Black Seminole Legacy and North American Politics, 1693-1845
Published in Paperback by Howard Univ Pr (January, 2002)
Average review score:

A scholarly, accessible studyThe Black Seminole Legacy And North American Politics 1693-1845 by educator and historian Bruce Edward Twyman is a scholarly, accessible study of fugitive slaves who fled to Florida and formed alliances with Native peoples, mostly Seminoles. Known as "Black Seminoles", these independent-minded people had a profound effect on the politics of Spain, Britain, and the United States especially from 1693 to 1845. The influence that Black Seminoles had on United States presidents, and the particular contributions of the Black Seminole leader Abraham, are scrutinized in depth in this fascinating account that delves deep into an often-overlooked side of American history. Ideal for both academia and the non-specialist general reader with an interest in Native American Studies, The Black Seminole Legacy And North American Politics 1693-1845 is highly recommended reading.
